Batch 3 of the annual Cask Strength release delivers another powerful and characterful expression of Lochlea. The Master Blender chose a mix of Oloroso Sherry butts and ex-Islay peated casks, resulting in a whisky that marries deep richness with an unexpected smoky edge. The aroma leads with ripe red fruits alongside savoury, barbecue-style smoke. The palate follows with cherries, sweet berries, and dark molasses, complemented by warm ginger cake, toasted rye, and charred wood smoke. The finish lingers gracefully, layering baking spices, coastal smoke, and firm oak tannins with subtle floral hints of red roses.
